When our little girl gets here and I have to go back to work we are planning for my husband's mom to care for her during the day while we are at work. We are not well off financially, but I know we got to pay her something. What do you think is a good weekly rate?

Answer
has she offered any prices? most places charge for child care 80-100 a week. talk to her first though and see what she thinks is a good rate... more than likely since shes family shes going to insist nothing or a very low amount. since the baby will be sleeping most of the time except feeding and such i think 50-80 would be a fair price considering she wont have to be running after the baby as if it were a toddler running all over the house getting into things. she wont have to buy any food for it such as munch and dinner since it will be drinking milk that you supply her with whether it be breast milk or a can of formula. just make sure she is stocked on diapers wipes and medicine the child might need baby Tylenol or just whatever and wipes so that no out of pocket expenses are coming from her. then she might be expecting more. but my suggestion would be talk this over with her... congrats on the pregnancy and hopefully your little girl gets here soon:)

Any good websites about nutrition during pregnancy?

I am pregnant and not looking to gain a bunch of unnecessary weight as I am already overweight. Are there any good resources online that can help me stay within the recomended weight I should gain?

Answer
www.zycia.com.au is a great site for up to date nutrition information. I'm a Naturopath and Nutritionist and am 4 months pregnant myself! I set up the company as a resource for myself and my patients and it's really grown from there. Zycia means 'life' and our philosophy is to promote and support life in it's earliest stages.

The main thing is to listen to your body. The average amount of extra calories you're likely to need is around 300 calories per day. This equates to about 1 tub of yogurt. So you don't need to 'eat for two!' Listen to your hunger signals and, especially in the first trimester, small frequent meals incorporating low GI carbohydrates and protein is the best way to ensure maximum nutrition without excess weight gain. This type of eating plan will also help to curb those crazy cravings! You can download a free low GI food list at the link below.

For free access to healthy prenatal recipes and tips, 'like' the Zycia Facebook page at www.facebook.com/zycia.preg.nut and click on the Welcome Page. These recipes and tips are updated weekly and are exclusive to Facebook 'likers'. All recipes are balanced to support a healthy pregnancy incorporating all the essential prenatal nutrients whilst helping to balance cravings and support healthy weight maintenance.

You can also use the 'Contact Us' page to ask our qualified Naturopaths any specific questions you might have.

I hope this helps. Congratulations and good luck!
