pregnancy and food?!?

Alyyyyyy

what food and drinks should i stay away from while im pregnant?

Answer
FIsh that high in mecury...Swordfish, shark, tilefish, king mackerel, limit canned albacore tuna fish. Fish caught in rivers, lakes and streams...Raw or undercooked meat, poultry, seafood (like raw oysters, clams, sushi), and eggs. Hot dogs and luncheon meats unless they have been steamed very very hot. Unpasteurized dairy foods. Unpasteurized juices. Raw vegetable sprouts, including alfalfa, clover, radish, and mung bean. Herbal supplements and teas. Herbs are natural, but herbal products have not been studied enough to recommend them during pregnancy. Certain foods that cause food allergy. Depending on your family history, your child may be at risk for developing food allergies. Avoiding foods including peanuts and peanut products during pregnancy (and nursing) may reduce allergy risk in susceptible children. CONGRATS!!!

can you eat hot dogs during your pregnancy?

A monkey,

20 weeks pregnant, I was just wondering if it ok to eat hot dogs during pregnancy. We cook them on the BBQ so i think it should be ok and I had about 3 during my whole pregnancy.

Answer
Eating 3 shouldn't be a problem its more if you eat it every day. I found this list of foods to avoid. I hope its helps.
What foods are best avoided in pregnancy?

Avoid chilled or uncooked seafood products which can often carry bacteria harmful to your baby.

The same applies to other chilled, pre-cooked meat products such as chicken or ham as well as stored salads and unpasteurised milk.

Soft cheeses made from pasteurised milk are safe to eat, however try to avoid foreign cheeses which use unpasteurised milk.

Raw/rare beef and poultry should also be avoided because of the risk of exposure to potentially harmful bacteria such as Salmonella.

Avoid raw eggs or food containing raw egg (homemade mayonnaise) to reduce the risk of Salmonella poisoning.

Excessive liver intake can increase your risk to vitamin A toxicity. Unfortunately the same applies for pate.

All fresh foods should be washed thoroughly before eating.

Alcohol consumption at any level is unsafe, hence it should be avoided.

Limit or avoid caffeinated beverages such as tea and coffee (especially in the first trimester where miscarriage is more common). If you have to have that coffee fix, limit it to 1 cup a day (heavy intake has been shown to affect a babyâs growth and development).

Also keep an eye on drinks high in sodium, such as many sports drinks.

Keeping well hydrated is also important, so again try to avoid tea and coffee where possible and ensure you drink plenty of water.

Foods high in sugar (fizzy drinks or undiluted fruit juices), unhealthy fats (French fries, cakes or chocolate) and salt (potato chips or pre-packaged noodles or stock) should all be eaten in moderation i.e. have them as treats.

Fish high in mercury such as shark, swordfish, kink mackerel, fresh tuna, sea bass should be eaten in moderation to avoid development delay and brain damage associated with mercury poisoning.

Australia and New Zealand are generally thought of safe fishing areas. However consider the origin of seafood that you buy, as many regions such as parts of Asia may have issues with water quality.

Fish oil is commonly known to be beneficial in pregnancy, however more is not necessarily better. Always be guided by directions on labels or from your health care professional.

Just out of curiosity, what was the weirdest food combination you craved during pregnancy?

done tryin

Answer
This is going to sound really gross, but peanut butter with those hot banana peppers you get in a jar. It only lasted through the first trimester and then it made me feel sick to think about it. Probably because I ate it so much. The thought of it now makes me scrunch my nose. LOL I craved A LOT of spicy foods during pregnancy, especially Indian food.

what should i eat and not eat during my pregnancy?

Q.

Answer
Your OB/Gyn would be able to tell you exactly what you are NOT to eat, for health reasons during pregnancy... including cold cuts, certain seafoods, certain cheeses, etc. I can't remember the exact name of it, but I want to say it starts with an L. Some kind of bacteria that is in these types of foods that are relatively harmless when you aren't pregnant. If he/she can't give you specifics, they should direct you to a nutritionist or a registerd dietician who specializes in pre-natal nutrition.

You don't have to avoid spicy foods unless they give you heartburn... I don't get heartburn, and I love spicy foods, the hotter the better. Mexican food, Indian food, Thai food, and many others can be pretty spicy, do Mexicans, Indians, Asians and others avoid their own native foods while pregnant? No.

You don't have to avoid caffeine, and caffiene containing foods like chocolate, but you should limit your intake of them, limit your amount of fried foods and processed foods as well, any time, not just during pregnancy.

You want to make sure you are getting plenty of nutritional balance by eating as healthy as possible, and make sure you are getting enough folate (folic acid), iron, fiber and protein.

Take your prenatal vitamins, besides giving you the boost you need during pregnancy, they help supplement the nutrients that are missed from normal eating habits. Drink your water!! If you don't like the taste of plain water, add a bit of lemon juice, or other kinds of 100% fruit juices to it. Yogi (brand) Tea, and others have certain blends that are specially blended herbal teas for during pregnancy. Check with your local health food store, they usually have a very informative staff when it comes to what herbs are ok and what ones aren't, during pregnancy.

Remember, just because you are pregnant and "eating for two"... that second person's stomach is VERY tiny... depending on your starting weight, normally the most one has to add to their diet is about 500 calories... make sure they are nutrient filled calories, not "empty" ones like sodas and candies. You can still have those too.... just like a normal diet though, they should be limited. Your doctor will let you know if you are gaining too much weight, or not gaining enough.

If you have "morning" sickness (mine was morning, noon & night with my first)... Ginger Ale and Saltines may become your best friends. I haven't seen them for a while, but Altoids made Ginger mints... they even had the ones coated in Dark Chocolate... if you like the taste of ginger, it really helps settle the stomach!

I want to loose 20 puonds in 2 months is there any remedies besides exercise and dieting?

Hello everyone!

I had a baby a year and a half ago and after the birth I gained 20 pounds over of what I had gained during the pregnancy. I have tried diet pills, exercising, liquid diet with only one meal a day and nothing works in matter of fact I think I just gained 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I have always had a big behind and thick legs to go with it and it did look cute but its not looking cute if theres a gut to with it. With the first kid it was easy to loose the weight. I honestly dont know what else to do.

Please does anyone know of any home remedies that i could use that actualy works?

Thanks.
oops! I just noticed I spelled pounds wrong. Thanks to that guy..

Answer
First, make sure that you are healthy, no diabetes, no heart stuff, and check to see what you should weigh for your bone structure, height, AND family genes (which are important). Some women never get rid of that extra 10 to 20 lbs., others can eat you out of house and home and never put on a pound.

Worrying about weight actually makes you think about food more. The word "diet" is a bad word too. Eating right is the only way. LOTS of quick diets only last a quick time. You can lose a lot of water with pills, but your body needs a lot of water to lose weight.

Our family is Native American and Scotch and Sephardic. Weight is easy for us to put on. My sister found it easier with doc's help to eat 6 smaller meals each day. Kept to 1200 to 1500 calories daily with 2 glasses of water with each meal. She lost 15 lbs. first month, 10 the second and 5 the third. She added more carbs the 2nd and 3rd month and it made a difference. So she cut out white sugar, white flour and corn, potatoes (kept the sweet), rice, but eats brown, uses grapeseed oil and walnut oil. She feels a lot better and some months hardly looses, but the weight has shifted, has more muscle then fat, but muscle weights more, so she bikes with her kids and hates running, but like roller skating. You don't have to over do it, live. You have kids and the time is short. You marriage needs work too, not just your body and if you can make good looking low fat carb, meals romantic, or picnics, with husband, isn't his view important?

So lots of high fiber salads, like with turkey, chicken pea pods, spinach, peppers, onions, scallions, mushrooms, gluten free muffins (yes, you can have muffins, breads and even cookies, low carb). My sister takes a few hours off at night to fix a weeks worth of cooked mushrooms, peppers, onions, and other ingredients and freezes into individual packets to thaw and heat when mixing with other stuff. She also has yogurt and 1/2 banana for breakfast, midmorning a gluten-free cookie and green hot tea, lunch vegetable soup with brown bread (gluten free), and ice tea, mid afternoon, fruit with fish or meat salad or just a fruit salad with cottage cheese, dinner a hot meal with hubbie, before bed, muffin or 1/2 a low carb sand., or gluten crackers with cashew butter and 1/2 glass of low fat milk ...

Sometimes she makes low fat ice cream with real fruit, or a smoothie with tofu. There are so many good recipes on line that take little time to make. You will lose slowly if you eat well and drink water and be involved in family, your mental and physical health is so important. Gut someones will get smaller, but nothing like situps to tone you, but biking will help, otherwise look at your children and if you had a choice we all would grow older gracefully with them and stay as healthy as long as possible. Good Luck.

Helpful cookbooks for gestational diabetes?

Platinum M

I am 14 weeks pregnant with twins, and found that I have gestational diabetes. Therefore, my OB has asked that I follow a diabetic food plan, but that I must be aware to consume the necessary caloric allotment of 3,200 daily. That is a lot of calories when almost eliminating carbs! Does anyone out there have a suggestion for a helpful (and easy) cookbook designed for women with gestational diabetes? I am sure I could use any diabetic cookbook, but am hoping for one geared more towards pregnant women, to help me get enough nutrition and calories in. Your help is appreciated.

Oh, and consuming meat is either hit-or-miss for me daily, as my morning sickness still lingers some days.
ADD: Yes, I am fully aware of the fact that I could easily look online. However, the whole point of using YA is to get actual perspectives and ideas. (Otherwise, wouldn't the suggestion of just using Google pretty much eliminate about 95% of the questions on YA)

Answer
I feel your pain!!

I am experiencing my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes. Since I hae a strong family history of diabetes, they generally test me at about 8 weeks so I get to spend the entire pregnancy eating a diabetic diet.

With my first pregnancy I was not very good about following my diet and gained 40 pounds in a singleton pregnancy.

Now I'm 18 weeks deep into my second pregnancy and have been following the diabetic diet since beginning. I was nearly 20 pounds heavier when I conceived this time than last time and I have yet to gain any weight. Instead I've lost 8 pounds and remain 8 pounds lower than my pre-pregnancy weight. Again, I am carrying only one baby.... (and I was overweight.)

I spend a HUGE amount of time researching gestational diabetes and diets during my first pregnancy and discovered that of the inter-connected library service in my county (connected to three other counties there was only ONE book about it. Since the book had a long waiting list I only got to keep it for four weeks. Since it was dry as hell, I think I only got through three chapters.

I have yet to find any cookbooks geared toward pregnant diabetics. :-(

I will list in my resources the two BEST diabetic websites I have found to date.

Additionally, I will tell you that the key to my current success is walking after meals (about 10-20 minutes) and limiting my carb intakes to that which was specifically directed by the dietitian I was assigned to.

Further, here is a list of "super foods" I have found to give me great energy, meet my dietary requirements well, allow for second helpings, and keep my blood sugars low:
Spinach Quiche (If you like eggs, want a recipe I have a really easy one, email me and I will send it back to you.) The added benefit to this is that my midwife informed me that egg consumption helps strengthen the amniotic sac!
2. Home-made turkey chili (beans add additional which not only helps to keep sugar levels down, but had *ahem* added benefits to counteract pregnancy symptoms... again I have a great recipe.)

Great snackies:
Kashi brand makes a cracker that is virtually identical to a Triscut, but it has no added sugar and half the carbs, I get mine by the three pack at Costco. It's called Heart-to-Heart
Plain Greek yogurt 7g carbs per serving! If you add 1-2 Splenda packets to a 1/2 cup, it tastes like creme freche! I like to throw a couple of raspberries in too for a low carb, low sugar fruit yogurt.

Places to find hidden sugars:
TOMATOS, tomato sauces. If you like Italian food... stick to meaty stews with small amounts of polenta and cheese... red sauce spikes my sugar every time!
Carrots (sad but true!) and OK in limited quantities ix-nay on the ranch dressing dip.
Peanut butter! Seems like a great place to get protein, I know! Actually it is, but you have to seek out the "special" peanut butter that is made with only peanuts and peanut oil. No added sugar (you can toss the Skippy and JIF right now.) Plus, this stuff usually requires refrigeration...
Pre-cooked bacon or jerky. Both of these are typically cured in sugar, so make sure you read packages.
It's tough but not impossible. If you do it well you're in great shape. If you have trouble, talk to your doctor, they can offer medication that isn't insulin to try to help control it.

Best of luck to you!

I've always been a workout freak, but my weakness is nutrition.?

Thinh Nguy

I really don't want to follow all of these diets nowadays. I was wondering. Will I lose fat if I follow the food pyramid?
I don't mean follow the servings.

Like, I should eat more whole grains than vegetables. More veggies than fruits. More fruits than nuts. Etc.

This might seem basic to you, but I know barely anything about this. xD

Answer
The food pyramid is the most confusing diet ever made. It is a complete waste of government knowledge and marketing, Nobody follows it at is too varied to be followed anyways. Even if it was followed strictly it does not promote weight loss, but helps you maintain the weight you're at.

Personally I like the slow-carb diet for fat-loss (notice I didn't say weight loss, nobody wants to lose weight only fat.) It's simple, easy to follow, and is effective. I can gove you a brief description of it, another good resource to get the full details from is The 4-Hour Body, by Timothy Ferris

It's 5 simple rules to follow;

1) Avoid "white" carbohydrates
- breads, cereals, potatoes, rice, tortillas

2) Eat the same few meals over and over again

- Proteins
Egg whites, Chicken Breast, Fish, Beef, Porl, etc..

- Legumes
Beans, Lentils, etc...

- Vegetables
Spinach, Broccoli, Peas, etc

3) Don't drink calories
- No Milk, No Cheese, No Dairy, No Fruit Juice, Stick with water, lots of water.

4) Don't Eat Fruit
- None, too much sugar that ultimately becomes fat stores (glycogen)

5) Take one day off per week an go NUTs
- once a week plan a binge, break the rules and eat anything you want. You're going to want to break the rules everybody does it might as well be planned, similar to buying condoms. It's better to be safe then to have an unplanned pregnancy. I once weighed in on Saturday morning, for a boxing match, boxed, ate like a pig after the fight. Sunday morning I had gained 20 lbs. I went back on my regular diet, and by Tuesday I was back to the weight I was on Saturday morning. It was all water weight, and of course the carbohydrates soaking up that water.

If you need more details on the diet and others check out the book The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferris

how can i gain weight?

Jodie

Im 5 ft 9/10 size 8/10 and have small boobs. i dont look in proportion at all, i was wondering if anybody knows any eating habbits that would help me put on weight. i have always been self concious about my body because im so thin everyone thinks im anerexic! Which im not!! I eat regulaly, typically junk food, with the occasional peice of fruit. Iv always been thin and tall, i guess i get it from my dad as he was tall an thin too when he was my age. (18) I would really appriciate it if someone could give me an answer which would help me gain some weight! Thanks!
these are english measurments, and im 18. I do participate in sport but i do eat enough calories, but nothing seems to work. Thanks

Answer
You're only telling us your height & size. How old are you?

I was always on the thin side. Imagine this: I got married at 21, weighing 95 pounds, 5'2". It took me until I've had 2 kids & 50 to finally become overweight, my cousins don't even recognize me at my mom's funeral. I only gained 20 pounds. I weighed more now than when I was 9 months pregnant. Both of my babies were in the delivery room in less than 3 hours. If you gained more weight than 20 pounds during your pregnancy, you could be in there up to 13 hours trying to deliver a baby.

I suggest, you don't worry about gaining weight now. Just eat all the healthy foods, less junk food and you'll leave longer & healthier!!!!

It is taking me 4ever to lose 20 pounds now! If you're concern which foods to eat, 3-5 servings for fresh fruits & vegetables. Also go to pyramid food groups.gov for ideas, but you need a good balance diet.

Many countries live a long healthy life without worrying about calories.

Pregnancy and foods you eat?

moekitten

Is there any woman that has slipped and eaten something that supposed to not be healthy? Lets just say you crave pork rinds and bought them and ate them. Does it matter? I have slipped and eaten junk food a couple of times. It's hard to eat just fruits, Vegetables and grain when you crave something like pork rinds, tortilla chips, and a little chocolate. Things like that taste good. I heard woman loose weight after the pregnancy is over. Well, I haven't gained too much weight at least I hope and I am trying real hard to avoid junk food but it is so hard. I slip a lot of times, has any woman went through this? And if so tell me your food story's about when you were pregnant and the foods you ate that you craved. If your pregnant right now tell me the story's about the foods you eat that you crave right now. I was wondering though is a little junk food to bad if you don't eat it everyday?
Cause I don't eat junk food all the time just when I can't buy no fruits or vegetables to snack on. Right now I am snacking on pork rinds and drinking orange juice. So is a little junk food bad? I eat healthy foods too. I love vegetables and fruits to snack on. I am 23 weeks pregnant
with a little girl. And this is my first pregnancy.

Answer
Are you kidding?? OF COURSE you can eat junk food!!!! Just LIMIT yourself! Ate french fries like a fein with son... ate ice cream like a junky with first born girl..... ate chinese food like an addict with second girl.

Pregnancy Ramen
[Reset]
Keys : Instant Noodles Maggi Student Budget Easy Pasta
Ingredients :

1pktramen (I like Top Ramen Sesame Flavor)
1xegg
1/2cupthinly sliced carrots

Method :

* 1/2 Cup chopped scallions (green onions)
* 1 tsp crushed sesame seed-nori mix (available in Japanese markets)
* This is the only way I could justify eating ramen noodles while pregnant. At least I could tell myself I was getting protein and veggies to counter the sodium and MSG. Mix up the egg as if you were going to scramble it and throw it in the pot when you put the ramen on to boil. Throw in the carrots at the same time. Meanwhile, put the ramen powder, nori mix, and scallions in the bottom of a bowl. Drain most of the water from the ramen and pour the noodles, egg, and carrots into a bowl. Mix and eat, salting every few forkfuls. Try not to think about what the MSG is doing to your unborn child.
* Note: This works well with Sesame, Chicken, and Oriental flavors, but tastes pretty bad with Beef, Spicy Beef, and Cajun Chicken. Not sure about Shrimp or Pork.

no im actually wanting someone to answer me :( if you look noone has answered it

Answer
Well its debatable..sounds like the flu, esp.if your aching all over, fever, chills, cough or sore throat, etc. OR you could easily be pregnant, and the nausea is morning sickness, though its specified morning sickness as this is when it happens during the first trimester of pregnancy. you said you take the pill irregularly and often forget, but take it at night.
To put you out of your agony, see you Dr., who will do a pregnancy test, and decide whats going on. you haven't said how long ago you had your last period, short as it was with less blood. the only answer is time and that Dr's. visit. also frequent urination is also common at the beginning of pregnancy as the foetus is sitting on the bladder.
Ill throw in a few sites for you to think about:
What causes vomiting?
A stomach virus or "flu" is the most common reason for vomiting. The medical name for this illness is acute gastroenteritis (AGE), and it often includes diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. Serious bacterial infections from E. coli, salmonella, and shigella -- germs that cause food poisoning -- can result in similar symptoms.
Surprisingly, respiratory infections can also lead to vomiting. When children swallow a lot of phlegm, the excess mucus can irritate their stomachs and cause them to throw up. Coughing can trigger vomiting as well -- a reflex that's actually designed to reduce the cough.
Other common causes of vomiting:
â¢Toxins, such as poisonous plants, or herbs inappropriate for children, or medications.
â¢Overeating, particularly at birthday parties and on Halloween.
â¢Motion sickness. Traveling in a car, boat, or airplane makes some children queasy. Have your child eat a light snack before leaving, breathe fresh air, and focus on distant objects during travel.
â¢Food allergies. Some food allergies can cause diarrhea or loose stools and occasional vomiting.
â¢Appendicitis. Symptoms may seem indistinguishable from a stomach virus, but the illness can be much more serious, so watch for this pattern: With appendicitis, the abdominal pain usually begins around the belly button and migrates to the lower right side of the abdomen. Intestinal blockage causes vomiting that contains bile, a forest-green-colored stomach secretion.
â¢Urinary tract infections. If your child has vomiting along with frequent, painful urination, he may have a urinary tract infection. Your doctor will want to examine him and check his urine.
â¢Headache. When head pain accompanies vomiting, it can signal a viral illness. Severe headaches and vomiting, however, can be symptoms of migraine or meningitis, an infection around the brain. A stiff neck, fever, listlessness, and a bumpy purple or red rash are other signs of meningitis. Get emergency medical care immediately if your child shows these symptoms.
â¢Pregnancy. Once a girl enters puberty, nausea and vomiting can be an early sign of pregnancy.
When should I call the pediatrician?
Dehydration is the most common complication of vomiting.

Am I pregnant?
Emergency Contraception:
Please note that if youâre visiting this page because youâve recently had unprotected sex (or the condom broke or you forgot to take your birth control pills) and youâre worried that you may be pregnant, you may want to visit our section on emergency contraception. Emergency contraception (a.k.a. the âmorning afterâ pill) can help prevent pregnancy if taken up to five days after unprotected sex, and is more effective if taken sooner.

Missing your period
If you have been sexually active, missing a period is the most tell-tale sign of pregnancy. If you have missed your period, you may want to consider taking a home pregnancy test.
However, even though a missed period is a common sign of pregnancy, there are other reasons why you may miss a period as well. Diet, excessive exercise and stress may all cause a woman to miss her period. In addition, certain birth control methods such as Depo ProveraTM and Hormonal Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) can also reduce or stop menstrual bleeding.
Some women, particularly younger women, may have irregular menstrual cycles, making it very difficult to predict when her period is due.
If you have lighter, shorter or irregular bleeding
After becoming pregnant, some women may experience what is called implantation bleeding. This bleeding is caused when a fertilized egg implants on the wall of the uterus. Sometimes, a woman may mistake this bleeding for a light period.
Other early symptoms of pregnancy
In addition to missing or having a delayed period, some common signs of pregnancy can include:
Fatigue: Women may often feel tired or fatigued soon after becoming pregnant.
Faintness: Some women may feel faint or lightheaded early on in her pregnancy.
Breast Changes: Breasts may begin to feel tender and/or swollen and heavier. The areola (the circle of skin directly surrounding the nipples) may become darker.
Constipation, Gas or Bloating.

Can eating too much junk food during pregnancy make my unborn baby fat?

YoungMarie

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and I'm still craving junk food. I eat healthy as well and eat things I'm suppose to, but I also eat a lot of junk food. I've only gained about six pounds so far, but I was wondering if eating too much junk food will cause my baby to be chubbier than usual. Does what you eat during pregnancy affect the weight more of your baby?

Answer
As long as you aren't only eating junk food, its fine. The size of your baby is going to be based on a lot of factors (most of them genetic). But in short, have some fritos or whatever it is you are craving...most anything in moderation is fine. Have a happy pregnancy!

pregnancy symptoms but negative test....?

newlywed07

I was on bc ( quite taking it to ttc at the end of the pack) and was spotting for 2 weeks and then dident have a period. I've never spotted or missed a period. I've been so tired, have lower back pain, starving, and slight heatburn. I took a test one week after my missed period and it was negative. Whats the deal?

Answer
Once pregnancy occurs, different effects take place in the body of the woman. Development of the baby in the womb produces many biochemical changes.

There are signs associated with pregnancy. Most common is a missed menstrual period, but since all women do not have regular menstrual cycles it is important to watch for other pregnancy signs such as: breast tenderness, nausea, heartburn, extreme tiredness and frequent urination.

Even if a woman has some or all symptoms it is important to reconfirm the diagnosis with a pregnancy test. This test will detect the presence of a hormone called chorionic gonadotropin, which is produced by the placenta and it is present in the blood and urine of the expecting woman.

Prenatal Care: Objective
The objective of prenatal care is to monitor the health of the pregnant mother and fetus.

It is important to visit the doctor as soon as you suspect you are pregnant. At each visit the doctor will examine you. This examination includes: monitoring weight gain or loss, blood pressure, circumference of the abdomen, position of the fetus and fetal heartbeat. Such variables are going to be closely followed during the course of your pregnancy.

Other tests your doctor may recommend are: Ultrasound and Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring.

Frequency of Visits to the Doctor
Your doctor may schedule your visits monthly during the first two trimesters (from week one to week 28 of pregnancy), every two weeks from 28 to week 36 of pregnancy and weekly after week 36 (until the day of delivery that could be between week 38 and 40 weeks).

Pregnancy associated discomforts

As the fetus grows, the uterus increases in size effecting other parts of your body. Some changes are triggered by the hormones your body secretes for nurturing the fetus to prepare both you and your child for birth.

During your pregnancy you will expect some discomforts such as:

Constipation and hemorrhoids
One of the reasons for constipation may be changes produced in the digestive tract due to hormones slowing down the movement of food. Added to this, during the last trimester of pregnancy there is more pressure on your rectum from your uterus. To avoid these try to drink plenty of liquids and eat fruit and vegetables with a high fiber content. Some pregnant women experience relief drinking a glass of tepid water before breakfast.

Nausea
As well as constipation, it is due to metabolic changes. In the morning before getting up try eating crackers and stand up very slowly. Try to eat in small quantities every three hours (fractionated diet). During your pregnancy it is good to eat proteins (meat, eggs, cheese) before going to bed at night.

Heartburn
This can occur when stomach acid from digesting food is pushed into your esophagus. As stated before, during pregnancy all digestive process is slowed down and in addition, the engrossed uterus presses up on your stomach. To avoid heartburn, eat in small quantities, several times a day. Avoid spicy and greasy foods and do not eat at least one hour before going bed. Some pregnant women experience relief resting at night by elevating their heads with two or three pillows.

Fatigue
Your body is doing a big job while you are pregnant. Try to sleep 8 hours daily and if you can take a nap during the day. Avoid hard work and eat a balanced diet throughout your pregnancy.

Headaches
You may have headaches during your pregnancy. Possibly because you are tense or in some cases it is cased by the higher level of blood in your body now that you are pregnant. Lay down and try to relax. Some women experience relief walking outside. Do not take medication while you are pregnant unless directed by your doctor.

Frequent Urination
During your pregnancy, your uterus is pressing down on your bladder and even if your bladder is almost empty this pressure produces the same sensation as if it were full. Do not avoid the urge of urinate.

Cramps
They are due to circulatory problems associated with the weight gain as you progress in your pregnancy. Ask your doctor to recommend some exercises to alleviate these discomforts

Chloasma
These are obscure marks in the skin caused by the hormones secreted during pregnancy and tend to disappear after delivery. Avoiding sunlight can help prevent them.

Stretch Marks
Skin tissue that has to support extra weight causes these marks. They appear on the abdomen and breasts and in most cases slowly disappear after delivery.

Varicose Veins
They are produced by the pressure of the uterus to the lower part of the abdomen that causes difficulty in circulation during the 9 months of pregnancy. They usually appear in legs especially if you must stand or sit for long periods of time. If you do need to stand or sit for long periods, move frequently to improve your circulation. Elevate your legs when possible or lie in bed with a pillow under your feet. While you are sitting try to keep your feet up. Do not wear tight clothing. Your doctor may recommends support stockings for you.

Breathing Difficulties
This happens during the third trimester of pregnancy because the fetus is occupying more space in your abdomen. Breath deeply several times a day (you can ask your childbirth instructor to teach you the correct way) but avoid hyperventilation. Sleep propped up and avoid crowded places and smoggy environments.

Backaches
This is a consequence of the growing of your abdomen and your weight increase. If you are suffering from backaches wear low-heeled shoes, try to keep your back straight and avoid lifting heavy weights. It is good to practice some relaxation exercises that will help to lower the tension in your muscles. Remember to stay as calm and serene as possible during your pregnancy.

Swelling
Due to the retention of water in your tissues, swelling has a high occurrence in your feet. Try to elevate your legs whenever you can and avoid tight clothes that bind your legs. It is important to notify the doctor if you notice that swelling is taking place in uncommon areas or if you register a sudden rise of your weight

What are some healthy foods to eat during pregnancy?

D [[

I feel as though I haven't been eating enough healthy foods during my pregnancy, I am 27 weeks. What are some good, healthy meals? ( I really know nothing about healthy foods, I have never really tried eating healthy. I also have a problem where I have a lot of trouble gaining weight and staying at a healthy weight, so I thought eating all healthy foods would just make me lose even more.)

I am about to go to the grocery store, what are something I should add to my list?

Thanks for your help! =]
I already have plenty of fruits and vegetables on my list and I don't know of anything else that is considered healthy. Could someone tell me some hot foods that are really healthy?
Yea, I meant it is nearly impossible for me to gain weight, not that I'm gaining too much. I have so much trouble keeping weight on, I'm sure I'll have no trouble losing after the baby, but who knows.

Answer
Healthy food is healthy food, whether you are pregnant or not. Vegetables, fruit, whole grains (brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta), milk, fibre, etc. Try to stay away from processed or frozen food as much as you can. And obviously don't eat raw meat, fish, cheese or eggs.
The list is endless for healthy hot meals - lasagne, spaghetti, quiche, stir fry......

I had the same problem with weight gain. With my first I gained 18lbs total. I weighed 122lbs pre-pregnancy, went up to 140lbs just before delivery, and after 6 months of breastfeeding I weighed 100lbs. With my second (I'm 25 weeks pregnant), I started out at 115lbs and have gained 12lbs so far.

Weight gain is not an indicator of a healthy baby. They will measure your uterus at every appointment to make sure the baby is growing consistently. the only reason they weigh you is to make sure you haven't gained too much too quickly which can be an indicator of high blood pressure/pre-eclampsia.

i want to make sure my baby is healthy. i just went to the doctors and its for sure :) what are some things i need to know to ensure a healthy pregnancy?

Answer
With so many people giving their opinion on what to do and what not to do during pregnancy, it becomes hard to determine what is fact and what is fiction. Below is a list of some of the more important factors to consider in regards to pregnancy do's and dont's.

Food during pregnancy
Certain foods need to be avoided during pregnancy. Listeria, which is caused by uncooked meats, some seafood, unpasterized milk and soft cheeses, can cause birth defects, miscarriages and stillbirth.

Cat litter
Toxoplasmosis, is a disease which is contracted by contact with cat feces. It is spread by a parasite which can lead to miscarriages, stillbirth and birth defects.

Smoking
Smoking during pregnancy is definitely a no no. It has been linked to a low birth weight, miscarriage and premature birth in many different studies. Second hand smoke poses the same dangers during pregnancy, and should be avoided at all costs.

Caffeine
Some studies on caffeine during pregnancy have led to the conclusion that the two do not mix well together, as caffeine may increase the possibility of miscarriage and low birth weight. On the other hand, other studies have shown no link between the two. Obviously an excessive amount of caffeine is a bad idea regardless of pregnancy. An excessive amount of caffeine is generally regarded as over 300 milligrams per day. If you stay well clear of this figure, caffeine during pregnancy is less likely to cause problems.

Safety around the house
There are many hazards around the house for pregnant women, but almost all can be easily avoided. If you still insist on doing all the house work yourself, try to stay clear of aerosol cans, industrial strength cleaners and fumes from paint, solvents and strippers. All of the above have been linked to birth defects and other pregnancy complications. It also pays to take it a little easier around certain parts of the house such as stair cases.

Body temperature
Keeping a moderate body temperature during pregnancy (especially during first trimester) is important as it may lead to birth defects. It is a good idea to keep an eye on your temperature during exercise and keep your fluids up. Things such as saunas and hot baths are not recommended during pregnancy.

Alcohol and drugs
To be safe with alcohol during pregnancy it is probably best to avoid it altogether, as there is no safe level of consumption. It can have detrimental affects on an unborn child. In comparison to a fully grown woman, a baby is very small, so you could imagine the potential damage to the baby if the mother was drunk or even tipsy. Drugs during pregnancy have been shown to have a negative effect. Drugs such as cocaine have been shown to hinder the development of a babyâs vital oxygen and nourishment, leading to complications such as birth defects and even an addiction in the child itself.

Exercise
Exercise during pregnancy is recommended for most women, but only at a moderate pace. Women who participated in high impact exercise, weight lifting, contact sports, high altitude training or scuba diving before pregnancy, will have to readjust their routines. Walking is highly recommended for at least the first two trimesters, as it can help your body withstand the rigors of labor and delivery more easily.

The do's and donâts of pregnancy are different for each woman and each pregnancy. The above information is not a medical opinion and should not substitute a professional medical opinion. Always consult your doctor or care provider before making any major decisions before, during and even after pregnancy.

Congrats!

Any good tips on how to loose pregnancy weight?

strictmom

I am a mom of seven, and I am due to have triplets in april. I usually just walk like mad after the kids are born but with triplets this may not be possible....it may sound shallow and I love my kids but I must also maintian my figure any advise. Thank you in advance

Answer
I gained 60 lbs with my son!! Yikes! I admit that, after giving birth, it took a while for me to get motivated to lose the weight-about 9 months. I did Weight Watchers Points but ONLY because you can sign up online and not have to go to the meetings that I totally didn't have time for. There is an online point calculator that tells you the point value-which you can start to do in your head after a few weeks. It also has a tracker that keeps track of points for you and all you have to do is input your food and exercises. There is also recipes and support groups all online. I LOVED it and lost my weight in about 4 months! I liked it b/c it was structured and that's what I need. Plus, it also helps if your husband does it with you. Good luck!

are there any websites where you can track food intake during pregnancy?

Stacey

I normally have horrible eating habits and want to make sure I'm getting all of my recommended servings of protein, calcium, fruit, etc.
Everything I've found tracks calories for weight loss

Answer
MyPyramid.gov

click on My Pyramid Tracker in the left-hand column, (opens in a second window/tab).
click Assess Your Food Intake.
you must be registered to participate, but upon clicking Assess Your Food Intake, you'll be given the option to sign up for free.
click Assess Your Physical Activity to use the calorie output program.

I used this for a college nutrition course and it was very insightful! You are able to search for food products by keyword and add them to a list, and then total up the list for your daily caloric values, fat values, sodium, etc.

Pregnancy cravings anyone?

dat one gu

Hi everyone, just wondering what are some cravings or food adversions you have while pregnant?
I really love Greek Yogurt & I used to hate it, I also really love mcchickens way more now.
For a few weeks tacos even made me sick when I went pass a tacobell, but then yesterday I realized that LEGIT mexican tacos actually are something that I just can't get enough of. The smell of broccoli soup gets a lady queasy.
BQ: True or not? Sweet cravings possibly a girl & salty are boy?
I'm having both cravings though. (:

Answer
Food cravings is very normal during pregnancy gh not all pregnant women may experience it.

B:Q:-YES
Sweet cravings is girl
Salty or lime craving is boy
But note that some few may have reverse genders in this cases. My Junior sister crave chalk throughout her pregnancy-which she ate it and had a boy. In your case of both sweet and salty cravings, you can look for other signs like breaking in the face, acne, morning sickness, hair loss etc. My advice look forward to have a healthy baby no matter the gender.

Boy or girl? Your stories...?

Alessia

This is a little bit of fun! What cravings heateat etc did u have when you was carrying your boy or girl? Like was there anything that gave it away? I know that most of the old wives tales are not true... But I'm doing this for fun :)

I've got two boys and now pregnant with my third! I'm hoping for a girl! I've been so much more moody this time round! All of a sudden I'm in a mood for no reason lol and heartbeat was 154bpm which was alot higher than my boys! Also with boys craved salty foods this time it's a mixture of sweet and salty and can't stop eating Heinz tomato soup lol...

So just wanna hear all your stories really.. For fun :D xxx

Answer
I was pregnant with a boy :) I always craved salty things-- my favorite food of all time during my pregnancy was a Cheez-It with a dill pickle slice on top. Oh my gosh, it's AMAZING. I didn't really know many of the wives tales, except the fact that if you carry low it's a boy (which I guess I sort of was carrying low). His heartbeat was slower, so I guess that also was a wives' tale that it could be a boy. Other than that, I had no idea. I was just excited either way.

is flu like symptoms a sign of pregnancy?

kimmy :)

hi everyone... the last week ive had flu like symptoms... ive been vomiting over smells..... like mushrooms.. i love mushrooms but as soon as i walked in the house when they were cooking them i vomited everywhere... i cant even look at food without feeling sick im tired as and dont want to get out of bed im peeing all the time.. i dont know if i should even think its pregnancy or its just the flu? my last period was very very light and lasted 3 days...usually im heavy and last the 7 days..has anyone else been pregnant and had this? also the only contraception we use is the pill im on and i take it most mornings unless i forget then i take it that night
no im actually wanting someone to answer me :( if you look noone has answered it

Constipation, Gas or Bloating.

i have a very good question.?

cheekz

what are the pregnancy myths and facts?

Answer
these are somethings i know. good luck and i hope they help you out.

1. Pregnant women crave pickles and ice cream.

False. Not all women crave pickles and ice cream, but food cravings such as these are based in fact. In general, food cravings can be very helpful in telling you what your body needs.

Explanation: Women who crave pickles are really craving salt and may be mineral deficient, and specifically sodium deficient. Additional minerals are particularly important in pregnancy when women's bodies increase blood volume by up to 20 percent, so the existing minerals are diluted.

Many women crave junk foods such as ice cream during pregnancy because junk food is associated with comfort. Sugars found in sweet foods, as well as in breads, pasta and rice cause the body to produce serotonin, which makes women feel good.

2. Pregnant women who carry low = boy, or pregnancy acne = girl.

False. How a woman carries depends on her body type and whether she has been pregnant before, but does not reflect gender. Pregnancy acne is unrelated to gender.

Explanation: Women tend to carry lower or higher depending on their body type. Taller, thinner women appear to carry higher. Shorter and fuller women appear to carry lower. Neither has any correlation to gender. Also, in a second pregnancy, since abdominal muscles may be looser, the pregnancy may appear to be lower.

Pregnancy acne has nothing to do with gender; it is a result of natural hormonal changes.

3. Pregnant women must eat for two; they must gain 25 pounds.

False. North Americans already eat for two prior to pregnancy!

Explanation: Thirty years ago, the average size of babies was 6 pounds. Today the average size is 8 pounds. There are many reasons for this, but one reason is over-eating, particularly unfavorable carbohydrates (breads, pastas, rice), and not getting enough vegetables, protein and healthy fats.

As long as a pregnant woman eats properly â and as long as her doctor is not concerned â there is no set formula for how much she must gain. Generally, in the last trimester, the baby gains half a pound a week. So, as a general rule, if, during this time, the pregnant woman is not gaining a bit more than that, her doctor may be concerned and her diet should be re-evaluated.

4. Pregnant women shouldn't take baths.

False. Pregnant women shouldn't take HOT baths.

Explanation: Women are told not to take baths because HOT water â over 98 degrees â is unfavorable to the pregnancy. Taking a warm (NOT HOT!) bath with someone to help you get in and out of the bath safely can help:

Decrease uncomfortable swelling in arms and legs.
Increase the amniotic fluid.
Prevent premature contractions.
Help the mother relax and alleviate anxiety about the health of her baby.

This is also why swimming is such a great pregnancy exercise.

5. Pregnant women shouldn't eat fish.

False. Although women are told not to eat fish due to mercury levels and fears of food poisoning, (a) women can choose fresh fish with low mercury levels and (b) fish oil has many benefits to the baby. After all, women in Japan don't stop eating sushi!

Explanation: Mercury and food poisoning are significant concerns. Women are individuals and every pregnancy is unique. Small white fish have lower mercury levels because they have been living in the ocean for a shorter period of time. Get fresh fish and smell it. A woman's sense of smell is heightened during pregnancy for a reason â the pregnant woman's body is helping her determine what is healthy for her baby.

Moreover, fish oil contains helpful Omega 3 fats, which actually enhance the development of the baby's brain, improve the baby's IQ, make the baby a better sleeper after birth, prevent premature contractions and premature labor, prevent high blood pressure during pregnancy, and act as an anti-inflammatory that prevent infection. If a pregnant woman is uncomfortable eating fish, she can visit her local health food store for fish oil supplements.

6. Pregnant women shouldn't change cat litter.

True. Due to a virus in cat feces called Toxoplasmosis.

Explanation: This virus can be very harmful to the pregnancy. But recognize that contact with kitty litter is not limited to changing the cat litter box. Since a cat walks on its litter, the virus can be tracked anywhere a cat walks, including its paws. Due to this, all contact with the cat must be limited and the house must be kept extra clean. Also, because much of our produce is grown outdoors where cats and other animals come in contact with it â even if it's organic â recognize that this virus may be present on fruits and vegetables.

7. Pregnant women shouldn't dye their hair.

False. Sort of. Pregnant women should avoid anything chemicalized â from food to hair dye.

Explanation: Just like with the foods they eat, pregnant women should try to expose their bodies to as few artificial products as possible. Hair dyes are no exception. Of course, that means redheads can use natural hennas.

8. Pregnant women should not carry heavy items.

True. Nothing more than 25 pounds.

Explanation: The pregnant body is already burdened by additional weight, which throws off a woman's balance and makes her more likely to fall. This and other things that cause a diminished sense of balance in pregnant women should be avoided, as a fall after the first trimester may be devastating to the pregnancy â always requiring immediate medical attention.

9. All pregnant women have morning sickness.

False. Women and their pregnancy hormone levels are individual.

Explanation: The feeling of morning sickness is often caused by a rise in the female hormone estrogen during pregnancy. If the pregnant woman's body already produced a high level of estrogen prior to her pregnancy, additional estrogen may cause morning sickness in the first trimester â or not. It really depends on the individual.

10. Pregnant women shouldn't drink alcohol.

True. Alcohol is 'feto-toxic,' which means it is poisonous to the growing baby.

Explanation: Just one drink a day can create a noticeable problem in the pregnancy. If someone told you that one pill of a certain drug is damaging to your baby, would you take half that pill or even one quarter?

11. Men cannot REALLY be a part of the pregnancy.

False. Making your life partner into your pregnancy partner can make a big difference in how much you enjoy your pregnancy.

Explanation: Pregnancy can be the most wonderful opportunity to bring a couple together as a solid team. When men are given the means to assist, pregnancy can make the relationship between that man and his pregnant partner exceptionally strong â strength a couple will need when baby arrives!

foods to avoid during pregnancy?

Q. can you list some foods and drinks that i should avoid during pregnancy please?

Answer
Raw Meat: Uncooked seafood and rare or undercooked beef or poultry should be avoided because of the risk of contamination with coliform bacteria, toxoplasmosis, and salmonella.

Deli Meat: Deli meats have been known to be contaminated with listeria, which can cause miscarriage. Listeria has the ability to cross the placenta and may infect the baby leading to infection or blood poisoning, which may be life-threatening. If you are pregnant and you are considering eating deli meats, make certain that you reheat the meat until it is steaming.

Fish with Mercury: Fish that contain high levels of mercury should be avoided. Mercury consumed during pregnancy has been linked to developmental delays and brain damage. A sample of these types of fish include: shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish. Canned, chunk light tuna generally has a lower amount of mercury than other tuna, but still should only be eaten in moderation. Certain types of fish used in sushi should also be avoided due to high levels of mercury. Please see Mercury in Fish for specific types of fish and further information on how to calculate mercury levels.

Smoked Seafood -Refrigerated, smoked seafood often labeled as lox, nova style, kippered, or jerky should be avoided because it could be contaminated with Listeria. (These are safe to eat when they are in an ingredient in a meal that has been cooked, like a casserole.) This type of fish is often found in the deli section of your grocery store. Canned or shelf-safe smoked seafood is usually OK to eat.

Fish Exposed to Industrial Pollutants: Avoid fish from contaminated lakes and rivers that may be exposed to high levels of polychlorinated biphenyls. This is primarily for those who fish in local lakes and streams. These fish include: bluefish, striped bass, salmon, pike, trout, and walleye. Contact the local health department or Environmental Protection Agency to determine which fish are safe to eat in your area. Remember, this is regarding fish caught in local waters and not fish from your local grocery store.

Raw Shellfish: The majority of seafood-borne illness is caused by undercooked shellfish, which include oysters, clams, and mussels. Cooking helps prevent some types of infection, but it does not prevent the algae-related infections that are associated with red tides. Raw shellfish pose a concern for everybody, and they should be avoided altogether during pregnancy.

Raw Eggs: Raw eggs or any foods that contain raw eggs should be avoided because of the potential exposure to salmonella. Some homemade Caesar dressings, mayonnaise, homemade ice cream or custards, and Hollandaise sauces may be made with raw eggs.

If the recipe is cooked at some point, this will reduce the exposure to salmonella. Commercially manufactured ice cream, dressings, and eggnog are made with pasteurized eggs and do not increase the risk of salmonella. Restaurants should be using pasteurized eggs in any recipe that is made with raw eggs, such as Hollandaise sauce or dressings.

Soft Cheeses: Imported soft cheeses may contain bacteria called Listeria, which can cause miscarriage. Listeria has the ability to cross the placenta and may infect the baby leading to infection or blood poisoning, which can be life-threatening. You would need to avoid soft cheeses such as: Brie, Camembert, Roquefort, Feta, Gorgonzola and Mexican style cheeses that include queso blanco and queso fresco, unless they clearly state that they are made from pasteurized milk. All soft non-imported cheeses made with pasteurized milk are safe to eat.

Unpasteurized Milk: Unpasteurized milk may contain bacteria called listeria, which can cause miscarriage. Listeria has the ability to cross the placenta and may infect the baby leading to infection or blood poisoning, which can be life-threatening. Make sure that any milk you drink is pasteurized.

Pate: Refrigerated pate or meat spreads should be avoided because they may contain the bacteria listeria. Canned pate, or shelf-safe meat spreads can be eaten.

Caffeine: Although most studies show that caffeine intake in moderation is OK, there are others that show that caffeine intake may be related to miscarriages. Avoid caffeine during the first trimester to reduce the likelihood of a miscarriage. As a general rule, caffeine should be limited to fewer than 300 mg per day during pregnancy. Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it helps eliminate fluids from the body. This can result in water and calcium loss. It is important that you are drinking plenty of water, juice, and milk rather than caffeinated beverages. Some research shows that large amounts of caffeine are associated with miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and withdrawal symptoms in infants. The safest thing is to refrain from consuming caffeine.

Alcohol: There is NO amount of alcohol that is known to be safe during pregnancy, and therefore alcohol should be avoided during pregnancy. Prenatal exposure to alcohol can interfere with the healthy development of the baby. Depending on the amount, timing, and pattern of use, alcohol consumption during pregnancy can lead to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or other developmental disorders. If you consumed alcohol before you knew you were pregnant, stop drinking now. You should continue to avoid alcohol during breastfeeding. Exposure of alcohol to an infant poses harmful risks, and alcohol does reach the baby during breastfeeding.

Unwashed Vegetables: Yes, vegetables are safe to eat, so you still need to eat them. However, it is essential to make sure they are washed to avoid potential exposure to toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis may contaminate the soil where the vegetables were grown.

Answer
There are certain foods that you should avoid when you're pregnant, because they might make you ill or harm your baby:

Some types of cheese
Avoid cheeses such as Camembert, Brie or chevre (a type of goats' cheese), or others that have a similar rind. You should also avoid blue cheeses.

These cheeses are made with mould and they can contain listeria, a type of bacteria that could harm your unborn baby.

Pâté
Avoid all types of pâté, including vegetable. This is because pate can contain listeria.

Raw or partially cooked eggs
Avoid eating raw eggs and food containing raw or partially-cooked eggs. Only eat eggs cooked enough for both the white and yolk to be solid. This is to avoid the risk of salmonella, which causes a type of food poisoning.

Raw or undercooked meat
Make sure you only eat meat that has been well cooked. This is especially important with poultry and products made from minced meat, such as sausages and burgers. Make sure these are cooked until they are piping hot all the way through and no pink meat is left.

Always wash your hands after handling raw meat, and keep it separate from foods that are ready to eat. This is because raw meat contains bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

Liver products and supplements containing vitamin A
Make sure you don't have too much vitamin A. This means you should avoid eating liver and liver products such as pâté and avoid taking supplements containing vitamin A or fish liver oils (which contain high levels of vitamin A). You need some vitamin A, but having too much means that levels could build up and may harm your unborn baby. Ask your GP or midwife if you want more information.

Some types of fish
You can eat most types of fish when you're pregnant. But there are a few types you should avoid and some others where you should limit the amount you eat.

Avoid eating any shark, swordfish and marlin. Limit the amount of tuna you eat to no more than two tuna steaks a week (weighing about 140g cooked or 170g raw) or four medium-size cans of tuna a week (with a drained weight of about 140g per can). This is because of the levels of mercury in these fish. At high levels, mercury can harm a baby's developing nervous system.

Have no more than two portions of oily fish a week. Oily fish includes fresh tuna (not canned tuna, which does not count as oily fish), mackerel, sardines and trout.

But remember that eating fish is good for your health and the development of your baby, so you should still aim to eat at least two portions of fish a week, including one portion of oily fish.

Undercooked ready meals
Avoid eating ready meals that are undercooked. Make sure you heat them until they are piping hot all the way through.

Raw shellfish
Avoid raw shellfish when you're pregnant. This is because raw shellfish can sometimes contain harmful bacteria and viruses that could cause food poisoning. And food poisoning can be particularly unpleasant when you're pregnant.

Food cravings during pregnancy?

Q. i will be 12 weeks pregnant saterday and havent really had any cravings . i was wonderin when you started to get them in your first pregnancy and what they are like? is it just a strong urge to eat certain foods and does everyone get them? haha sorry if this is a weird question im a first timer and curious. thanks! :)

Answer
I'm prone to having food cravings as it is so when I got pregnant they just got worse and more frequent. I started to notice more intense cravings as early as 6 weeks. I'm now only 9w6d and I definitely have cravings. I've noticed that the cravings are more for foods that I can tolerate. I have only had nausea, no actual throwing up, but when I have a craving and eat something else I get nauseous very easily so I've started eating what I'm craving and it works out pretty well. I've not had any crazy cravings, just cravings for normal foods I usually eat.

Did you have any odd food cravings during your pregnancy?

Angie

Though my mamaw normally hated the stuff, throughout all of her pregnancies she craved chewing tobacco. I'm about 6 months along and I haven't craved anything odd yet...

Answer
I really didn't have food cravings with my pregnancies until the VERY end (like, last two weeks) During both pregnancies I craved ice!! lol I walked around all day every day with a big glass of crushed ice...can't explain it.
